The Challenge<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Pelayo, one of the main insurers in the national scope, is immersed in an ambitious project of renovation of its IT platform<\/strong>. Within this context, there is a need to define a new framework <\/strong>for the development of SPA applications that serves as a basis for the construction of new business applications under a solid, robust and secure architecture<\/strong>.<\/p>

In addition, Pelayo wanted to update the integration architecture<\/strong>: now the different applications will communicate based on APIs both internally and with third parties.<\/p>

Additionally, with the main objective of reducing the time-to-market of new products and functionalities, the aim was to automate and accelerate<\/strong> as much as possible the different stages that make up the life cycle of the applications<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our Solution<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The first challenge was to\u00a0design the communication architecture<\/strong>\u00a0between the different existing backend and the new frontend.<\/p>

For this, we opted to apply the BFF (Backend For Frontend) integration pattern. The applications developed with this pattern are specialized light pieces that make the adaptation of the services towards the different frontals.<\/p>

In this way, the service layer maintains a\u00a0manageable complexity<\/strong>\u00a0and a more generic, extensible and persistent development style over time, delegating the more specific needs of the front in the BFF.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The next challenge was to develop a series of\u00a0archetypes\u00a0<\/strong>responsible for creating a base structure for the development of SPA applications using\u00a0Angular 7 as the main framework<\/strong>.<\/p>

The modular architecture developed defines a set of reusable components that facilitate the incorporation of\u00a0transversal functionalities\u00a0<\/strong>to the applications that require it:\u00a0authorization, authentication, traceability, analytical<\/strong>, etc.<\/p>

To guarantee the correct execution of the applications built under this new stack it was necessary to\u00a0update the execution architecture<\/strong>.<\/p>

On one hand, We used\u00a0NGINX\u00a0<\/strong>as a\u00a0high performance web server<\/strong>\u00a0thanks to an event-driven architecture that improves the classic threads system of servers like Apache, and on the other of the\u00a0WSO2 API Manager<\/strong>\u00a0to manage the\u00a0creation, execution and securization of the corporate APIs<\/strong>\u00a0exposed both internally and externally, all in an implementation with high availability requirements.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Finally, in order to\u00a0minimize the time-to-market<\/strong>\u00a0of the applications, we rely on\u00a0Jenkins<\/strong>, a platform with which in Profile we already have extensive experience in similar challenges.<\/p>

We implemented a series of\u00a0declarative pipelines<\/strong>\u00a0on Jenkins that\u00a0define the different stages<\/strong>\u00a0for what an application passes before being put into production, and\u00a0automate the different operations<\/strong>\u00a0of each stage (such as the construction of applications, the execution of tests to different levels, its deployment in the destination infrastructure), which until now were done manually.<\/p>
